Hannah Jo Hartley of Columbia departed this life on May 26, 2013.
A memorial service to celebrate Hannah’s life will be held at 6 pm on Friday, May 31 at Commons Area of Hallsville Intermediate School.
Hannah was born October 29, 1994 in Columbia, Missouri to Robert and Donya Hartley. Hannah was diagnosed with a rare form of muscular dystrophy called Centronuclear Myopathy shortly after her birth. Though she faced many challenges during her short life and plenty of visits to the Pediatric ICU at University Hospital, her courage and determination was inspiration to many. Each passing year was a miracle to her loving family as she continued to beat all the odds. She learned to drive her electric wheelchair with amazing precision at the age of 2. As people got to know her everyone understood this little girl had a big personality. She could easily charm you one minute and tease you or play practical jokes on you the next.
Hannah attended Hallsville Public School and had recently accomplished a major milestone as she graduated high school on May 19, 2013. For many years, she enjoyed participating in horse riding sessions at Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center with her two favorite horses Angel and Buddy. It was very special to see that little girl and the big horses connect to one another. Hannah also enjoyed participating in Special Olympics, bowling, and attending camp.
Hannah is survived by her parents, maternal grandmother Carolyn Edwards of Valley Falls, KS, paternal grandmother Ruth Hartley of Columbia, brother Jeffrey Hartley of Columbia, aunts and uncles Dan and Cathy Hartley of Holton, Ks; Don and Rita Hartley of Columbia; Ron and Lorie Hartley of Kansas City, Mo; Randy and Barbara Hartley of Buffalo, Wyoming; Dale and Shelley Edwards of Valley Falls, KS; Dean Edwards of Cloquet, MN; 19 cousins, and countless friends.
Hannah’s grandfathers Leland Edwards and Melvin Hartley were waiting for her as she departed this life and joined them in Heaven.
Memorial contributions can be made to Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center, 4895 Missouri 163, Columbia, MO 65201 or to Joshua Frase Foundation, 124 Crossroad Lakes Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32028.
